My personal message:
WJR supports Jewish and NON Jewish projects around the world. I am running the LONDON MARATHON to raise money for the Rwandan community where there are over 800,000 orphans and over 100,000 children living in child-headed-households, in this country where over half the population are children.
This is in spite of a RECOVERING BROKEN WRIST AND ARTHRITIC KNEES!
WJR's local partner in Rwanda, The Streets Ahead Children’s Centre (SACCA), provides homes and assistance for former and current street-living and working children in Eastern Province, Rwanda.
There are three care centres and a network of social workers, working to re-integrate these young people back into their homes, wherever it is feasible. There are currently 88 children in the centres, who receive vital welfare support, medical care, and education and vocational training. Your generous gift will help provide RECREATIONAL MATERIALS FOR THE CHILDREN, IN PARTICULAR SPORTS SHOES ENABLING THEM TO PLAY SPORT AS WELL AS ACCESSORIES LIKE FOOTBALLS.
IT WILL ALSO SUPPORT TEN CHILDREN GRADUATING FROM VOCATIONAL TRAINING THIS DECEMBER, HELING THEM WITH STARTER KITS IN THEIR WORK OF MECHANICS, HAIRDRESSING,WELDING AND ELECTRONICS.
IN ADDITION IT WILL ALSO HELP TO PROVIDE SCHOOL MATERIALS AND UNIFORMS FOR THE 101 CHILDREN THAT ARE BEING SUPPORTED THROUGH PRIMARY SCHOOL. .
The project’s impact is best demonstrated by the stories of those lives it has transformed. One such example is 15-year-old Grace who suffered from physical abuse, exploitation and homelessness before she benefited from our support. After a horrendous time living on the streets, she has progressed wonderfully in one of the homes and is now happy and attending school. In her afternoons, Grace participates in vocational classes on handicrafts and learns French. She is a popular friendly girl if a typical teenager – headstrong and stubborn. She has had to be to turn her life around. However, Grace now believes she can realise her dream, to become a nurse and buy a house for her grandmother and herself.
Please support me in raising money for this incredibly worthwhile project!
